The evolution of Urban Pie Atlanta: the Kirkwood neighborhood staple makes its transition to a sports bar and creates an inclusive tone and environment for all

June. It's the official halfway point of the year and the beginning of summer.

During this time of the year, a venue with an inviting atmosphere along with indoor and outdoor options is truly ideal. And when it comes to a venue with universal appeal, our recent visit (with our collaborative partners of Lens2Pens Podcast and EmoryRose Photography) to Urban Pie Atlanta is truly a space and place which has these components and so much more.

Under the ownership of Lisa Curtis, who brings nearly 40 years of experience in the restaurant industry (and nearly 20 years as the venue owner), the longtime pizzeria is transforming into a sports bar, but not your typical kind. Previously featured on Atlanta Eats (2023) and Bar Rescue (2025-Season 10/Episode 8) and an atmosphere of inclusion across the board, it reflects its moniker of being a setting where all fans belong.

In speaking with her (during our visit the past Friday, May 29, 2026), there are a number of takeaways and tone-setters including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Everybody's welcome here.

  • The goal is to leave with a full stomach (and share with their friends and colleagues).

  • The focus is on people to enjoy their experience, along with being on-point as best as possible.

  • Growth by evolving, getting meaningful customer feedback, and addressing community needs ranging from being family friendly, pet-friendly (including those with service/support animals), and game friendly.

Beyond setting a tremendous tone and atmosphere (in which we truly see people with their families along with a wide demographic makeup), there are equally compelling and ambitious items we're fortunate to try. Their menu is complete with a growing selection of vegan options and gluten-free offerings and a sound array of alcohol and non-alcohol options. As for our experience, we start off with the Dream Girl Cocktail (for those 21 and older) along with a truly spicy sampling of the Jalepeno Cheese Curds, a creative spin on this Midwestern staple:

We proceed with one of their house salads, which features homemade (yes, truly homemade) croutons to add a refreshing flavor and compliment to our meal.

After partaking of the appetizers, we get to one of the featured items on the menu, the Angel Dream Pie. The Detroit style crust pizza is a 12 x 12 masterpiece (yes, 1 foot by 1 foot) complete with pepperoni, chicken, jalapenos, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, spinach, and hot honey for a seamless and truly filling blend given the thick crust and overall effort per the staff and ownership.

And to conclude, the half slice of Italian Lemon Cake truly provides a light, zesty, and moist finish to any meal.

Beyond the food and atmosphere, Urban Pie Atlanta provides a wide array of programing, including collaborations with KB Sports Media and Maggie T Productions. As the official watch venue for the Atlanta Dream, there's ample patio space to enjoy the games on the big screen along with indoor seating options. Combined with upcoming viewings for the NCAA Women's College World Series (Softball Championship), the World Cup, and the NBA Finals (among other sporting events), its growth as a sports bar is clear and present, which aligns with the related growth in women's sports overall.

On June 2nd, the public has the opportunity to embrace the venue's growth thanks to their official relaunch. These are among the offerings afforded to those in attendance starting officially at 5pm:

  • Free food for the first 30 guests.

  • Live Music.

  • Drink/beverage specials.

  • Watch party for the Atlanta Dream vs Connecticut Sun (tipoff is at 7:30pm).

As a proud woman-owned and LGBTQ-owned sports bar, Urban Pie Atlanta is a mainstay in the Kirkwood community and with their readiness to evolve and change, is prepared to take the next step in being an accessible venue to all. Combined with things in the works (ranging from menu items, seating, and technology advances), the venue is getting ready for their next step.

And for the general public, the next step to the venue is literally any day, especially this coming Tuesday (June 2, 2026), at 5pm.
