On June 6, 2025 at the Gwinnett Justice Center (75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville, GA), the family of twin brothers Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis host a press conference.

With the presence and support from the Gwinnett NAACP, the Georgia NAACP, and related colleagues, including State Representative Gabe Okoye (102nd District) and Betty Maddox-Battle Muhammed from GRIEVE, the focus is on getting answers to the serious questions they have regarding the brothers and the mystery behind their death and discovery on March 8, 2025.

In looking at parts of the timeline due to the initial investigation by the Towns County Sheriff's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations who is currently handling the case, there are some serious questions and lack of clarity even with its status. To date, here are essential pieces of information compiled (click HERE for their interview with The Final Call):

  • March 6, 2025: The brothers are at their sister's house (Chamblee, GA, not too far from their residence in Lawrenceville, GA) as they prepare to go to the airport to catch a standby flight the following day.

  • March 7, 2025: Both have a standby flight scheduled for Boston, MA.

  • March 8, 2025: Approximately 11am EST, the brothers are found fatally shot at the top of Bell Mountain in Towns County (GA), which is approximately 120 miles from the airport and 90 miles from their residence.

  • Said mountain/park entails winding roads (making it difficult to navigate at night) and the actual mountain/park is locked manually and inhibits vehicular traffic. Likewise, the area is unsupervised.

  • Neither have a history of hiking and there are questions why they would travel in such a manner.

  • Scott Kerlin, who shared and released photos, is charged with misdemeanor obstruction.

  • There are questions with the communication from the GBI along with them stating if it is a closed case as per open records, if a case is closed, the evidence has to be released (and the GBI has not done so).

Opening remarks at the press conference are provided by Tiger Harris (their uncle), Tyrese Lewis (the father of the Lewis brothers), Edward Paul (the president of the Gwinnett NAACP), and Gerald Griggs (State director of the Georgia NAACP). They not only extend their thanks for support, but provide questions and concerns around the following areas of concern (you may watch the video for details):

  • Question on the ruling of a suicide given their lack of familiarity with the area.

  • The access given the makeup of the roads and the fact the area is manually gated.

  • Position of the bodies and other logistical questions.

  • Questions of accountability of law enforcement.

  • The call for the release of evidence and the need for an independent investigation.

  • The call for the director of the GBI to actually communicate with the family along with Governor Kemp to get involved in a similar manner to the Amaud Arbery case.

State Representative Okoye and Ms. Battle-Muhammed provide additional context and concerns as follows (you may watch the video for details):

  • Serious concerns about a possible cover-up given the ambiguous response of law enforcement.

  • Continued demand for the release of the evidence and communication with the family.

  • The grief and related challenges of unsolved murders and their impact across multiple demographics and audiences.

  • The call for peace, justice, and the truth in this and related cases.

During the q/a with the media, we raised a question on the underlying theme of integrity, as based on the information shared at the press conference, there are some grave concerns (you may watch the video for more details):

To say there are questions that need answers is without saying. Given the continued efforts of the family, NAACP, and related community organizations, the focus is quite simple and one they ask the larger community to be a part of:

  • Support and encouragement for the family.

  • A call for the release of information for an independent investigation.

  • A call for the director of the GBI and the Governor to do their part to ensure the facts and evidence are made more evident for an appropriate course of action.

There are still questions that need answers.

And clearly, deserve answers.
