Do for love. A love for the game.

These are adages regularly used when we see people showing a positive passion and purpose for what they do career-wise and beyond. And in this case, the terms fit when it comes to Jayden Loving.

During our season coverage, we get an opportunity to see the defensive lineman (number 8) as a key presence for the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons football team, including his sense of insight and perspective to help the team regroup after a difficult overtime loss to Georgia Tech (which has its share of controversy).  Thanks to him and other team leadership, the Deacs complete the season with a 9-4 record and win in the Duke's Mayo Bowl, their first bowl game appearance since 2022.

Standing at 6' 2" and 317 pounds (per the 2025 college season), he's currently a prospect for the upcoming NFL Draft. We spoke with him not too long after his performance last week (March 25, 2026) for Pro Day for Wake Forest Football (click HERE for some footage for the bench press). During our conversation, there are some tremendous takeaways ranging from family, his collegiate journey, his related preparation, and life lessons beyond the game.

We opened up getting a point of reference of the influence of family, how sports "finds" him, the early lessons learned, and the foundation set at home, especially from his mother (as he has family playing collegiate sports at Bethune-Cookman and North Alabama respectively).

His collegiate experience includes lessons learned at both HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) along with PWI's. Ranging from his coaches at Bethune Cookman, Western Kentucky, and this past season at Wake Forest, Loving has some takeaways ranging from learning how to work with and relate to people from multiple backgrounds and walks of life, along with the importance of leadership being knowledge-based. Combined with his innate ability to have others hear him before they see him, his ability to team-build is one which translates across the spaces and places he's been to the people he's able to connect with (you may learn more by watching the segment below):

Building upon these attributes, being teachable and coachable are evident among them. Loving credits his coaches throughout his journey for his individual growth along with encompassing constructive examples of leadership and team building. He expands on these, including how they play a role with his preparation for Pro Day and related components to enhance his physical, mental, and spiritual growth (you may watch both segments below for more details):

Speaking of Pro Day, his preparation leads to a noteworthy performance which includes sound times (as reported by Wake football) for key aspects including (but not limited to) the 40 yard dash (4.82 seconds), short shuttle (4.53 seconds), and bench press (33 reps at 225 pounds per rep). The stats, along with his aforementioned attributes and larger focus, are clearly catching the attention of scouts, coaches, general managers, and related NFL personnel as he pursues his dreams and goals (you may watch the segment below for additional information):

Bringing together lessons learned at home, his collegiate journey, his preparation for the Pro Day, and looking forward to the possibilities make Loving a person to keep an eye on. And in closing out our interview, in speaking to his fraternal bond (as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.) and the life takeaways from it and the one shared, even in the midst of his moving parts, he reminds us to slow down, take a breath, and enjoy the moments.

Loving on Loving across family, his collegiate journey, the game, and life itself.

Do for love and a love of the game (beyond the game).
