Accessible: the Simmons Memorial Foundation continues to provide access to higher education resources and beyond

Access. It's something spoken about, especially when it's not taking place for those with sincere need, let alone improved awareness.

Of the thankful myriad of entities small and large who do their part to help fill in and stand in the gap when it comes to accessibility to the tools and resources needed to have a sound platform and foundation of success when it comes to college and higher education, the Simmons Memorial Foundation is one such entity. With a 30-year track record of doing so, the leadership of Dr. Omari Simmons (Esq.) is a key and driving force behind their work.

Our recent conversation finds us learning more about the work they've done, let alone the work they are embarking on. Simmons, whose background includes a 20-plus year career as a faculty member on the legal/law school level (currently at George Washington University), brings a sense of passion and purpose in his work with the foundation. Named after his mother and brother, the work of the nonprofit is geared on providing the tools needed for success, especially when at times, there are marked gaps in mentoring students along with cultivating their talent and potential (you may watch the segment for a point of reference):

As the 2025-26 academic year gets closer to concluding, there are key events which are ramping up for the foundation. On April 12th, there's a webinar designed with high school seniors in mind, especially for those who are sorting through their college acceptances and taking time to determine "what's next" as they prepare to make the jump from high school to college; likewise, on April 26th, there's another webinar for high school students to get a sense of the foundational pieces and components needed as they embark on their higher education journey. Combined with a fundraising piece (the Champagne Reception taking place on May 2nd), the Simmons Memorial Foundation is clearly moving forward in expanding their reach to as many as possible (you may reference the video below):

Ongoing programing to improve access is the hallmark and standard set by the Simmons Memorial Foundation. Some would call it "paying it forward", but that's just part of who they are and what they do.

Pathways to success don't always have to be roundabout or arduous.

Just make it accessible.
