When HBCU's UNITE: the 5th edition of the UNCF conference focuses on enhancing the transformational nature of said institutions while addressing the challenge of the day

It is a challenge to have unity without community.
However, from a historical and contemporary standpoint, HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) are more than up to the challenge given their ongoing legacy of being a unifying presence within the immediate and greater community. Coinciding with this includes the efforts of the UNCF (United Negro College Fund) in providing support and access opportunities for students and their member institutions, opportunities to engage, assess, along with the checkpoints provided allows each institution of higher learning to remain dedicated to their motto and craft of cultivating the current and future generations of leaders in all social strata and walks of life.
One of the ways in which these undertakings take place is through the UNITE Conference.
This year marks the 5th year of the professional gathering (July 19-23, 2026) which takes place at the Signia by Hilton Atlanta (this year). More than 1,000 attendees are present and accounted for during this time, as a record number of current and former HBCU presidents and stake/shareholders meet for a balance of workshops, discussions, and inter-related programming. Ranging from (but not limited to) a spotlight on the return of A Different World (which many credit as a catalyst for sparking interest in HBCU's during its original run from 1987-1993) to conversations across the board from the likes of Dr. Harold Martin, Sr. (President Emeritus of North Carolina A&T University) to UNCF President and CEO Michael Lomax (who announces his transition from his current role effective in June of 2027), it is a proactive manifestation from "think-tank" to action and realization planning.
During our time there (on July 21, 2026), we're able to not only have a look-in at multiple sessions and engagement opportunities, but to speak with a few of the corporate partners whose efforts help amplify the "nuts and bolts" when it comes to key and necessary components aligned with larger success and impact. Our time speaking with representatives from Stratagon is an example of said areas of focus, as they bring a solid array of programming designed for current student success to larger alumni engagement (you may watch our full interview below):

Along with a sound blend of social events and related networking, the conference encompasses more than just professionals getting together for the expected sharing and exchanging of ideas for the greater good. It equally encompasses the larger nurturing nature of HBCU's and while each school does it their own way, all are focused on the preparation of tomorrow's leaders today, especially given the historical and contemporary landscape and related challenges of the day.
Given the makeup of this segment of the community, it's clear that unity is the name of the game and an underlying theme of the transformational nature of these special institutions of higher learning.
