The battle beyond the ice. Karen Zehner's work in the game of hockey and her new release "Battle by Battle" covers battles within and beyond what takes place on the ice

There's a story within the story and a battle within the battle. And then there's the ongoing work of those who are able to cover, see, and share accordingly.
One of our peers who does so related to the game of hockey is Karen Zehner. The Maine native and Pennsylvania-raised media presence covers her share of ground in and outside the game of hockey. By the same token, her love and passion for the game leads to opportunities within sports media, specifically covering the game of hockey (you may watch the video below for a point of reference):
A culminating effort of her work in hockey is the release of her new book, Battle by Battle. The title is inspired by the 2025-26 theme of the Atlanta Gladiators (a member of the ECHL and an affiliate of the NHL's Nashville Predators). Inspired by the team's efforts which results in their return to the postseason for the first time in 4 years, her work captures elements of the on and off the ice endeavors which lead to a successful season and move in a positive direction and getting closer to individual and team goals. The book is available in e-book/Kindle format and the print editions (paperback and hardcover) are available in 3 separate volumes given the depth of content covered, akin to the 3 periods of a regulation hockey game (you may watch the video below for a point of reference):
Capturing elements of the game and outside of it is one thing, but doing so for something bigger is what makes it even more impactful.
Half of the net sales of the book are donated to the Team Goose Foundation. Inspired by the story of Gary "Goose" Ragusa, Sr. (who is diagnosed with ALS-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), the focus of the foundation expands from providing support for the Ragusa family (as Goose transitions in 2020, 5 years after being diagnosed with the terminal disease) to supporting efforts aligned with research for effective treatments and the ultimate goal, a cure for the disease.
In the game and beyond, there are battles to fight along with battles within the battles. The hope is through her book and related advocacy and awareness, the potential wins can extend beyond the ice or a league championship.
In supporting research efforts and hopefully a cure, the wins, despite the challenges posed and the hurdles faces, can result in an even bigger championship in the game of life.
