Collaborations can be key when it comes to making a positive impact and leaving an enriching footprint on the fabric of the community. And with the month of March fast approaching, two community-focused organizations are teaming up to make a difference in lives of those focused on making a positive transition life-wise and beyond.
We recently sat down with leadership of The 3 Keys Foundation and their collaborative partners, the "Iconic" Iota Zeta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Their upcoming Spruce and Shine project is a way to make a difference in the lives of the people and families served by the nonprofit.

In speaking with Scott Walker, part of the leadership team of The 3 Keys Foundation, we get a point of reference of the services provided. A veteran of more than 30 years of experience and a high level of expertise and acumen in working in the nonprofit field, he provides context regarding the audiences served by the foundation and the services provided (you may watch the segment below for a point of reference):
Their collaborative partner, the "Iconic" Iota Zeta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, has an equally focused approach when it comes to community service and outreach. Since the sorority's establishment on November 12, 1922 on the campus of Butler University as well as the chapter's chartering (on March 24, 2001), service and outreach are extensions and reflections of the members and their larger mindset driven by their core principles of service, sisterhood, scholarship, and leadership. In speaking with the Chapter President (Basileus) Dr. Linnea Buckhalter, she provides points of reference of how the chapter approaches said service and related programming, as the chapter motto of Sigma Women Making a Difference Through Service and Action is immersed through their endeavors (you may watch the segment below for more information):
As their 25th anniversary of their chartering is around the corner, the Spruce and Shine project isn't just a footnote to their celebration. It's a reflection of how such programs are in alignment with their day-to-day. In our conversation with two of their charter members, Keisha Simmons and Angela Jackson provide additional notes on the sorority and chapter, along with sharing the "why" behind what makes this such a meaningful undertaking (you may watch and listen to the segments below for a point of reference):
Fellow charter member Anitra Walker adds, "Through both my professional work in the homeless services sector and my consulting work with case managers, I have seen firsthand the challenges residents face in maintaining their housing. This includes barriers related to mental health, physical health and daily living supports".
Both entities are accepting donations via their respective sites (click HERE to visit the site for The 3 Keys and you may email/Zelle your donation to the chapter at tamiochusizs@gmail.com). Per the flyer, there is a QR code which may be scanned for a complete listing of the cleaning supplies requested as supply kits are scheduled for creation and delivery on March 21st (you may also click HERE for the link).
"I hope residents feel encouraged, energized, and supported in caring for their living spaces. Beyond providing supplies, we want this project to help residents learn practical cleaning strategies, build confidence in maintaining their homes, and feel a renewed sense of pride and ownership in their space. When people feel good about their environment, it can positively influence their well-being, motivation, and overall stability", Ms. Walker adds.
Likewise, the takeaways and larger life lessons shared by Mr. Walker, Dr. Buckhalter, Ms. Simmons, and Ms. Jackson reinforce the "why" along with related things to think about related to this project and the greater community (you may watch and listen to their remarks below):
A way to serve, collaborate, and celebrate.
Seemingly, Spruce and Shine is right on time.
