Start your holiday rounds at the Sigma Lounge (black tie/formal affair on November 4, 2023)
The holidays are here!
While October is just taking flight, November is right around the corner. And while many consider the latter weeks of November as the start of the holiday season, the Iconic Iota Zeta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has some special in mind on November 4, 2023 in the heart of one of the more scenic spaces in the city of Atlanta, Piedmont Park.
Their signature event, the Sigma Lounge, is a longtime event conducted typically the first weekend of November (leading into their sorority's founding date of November 12, 1922 on the campus of Butler University). This year's edition is undertaking a significant step as it's evolving into a black-tie/formal affair (located Greystone-Piedmont Park at 1320 Monroe Drive in Atlanta). In part of my interview with fundraising chair Toni Gordon, she provides a point of reference regarding the sorority's history, chapter history, insight on the array of international and local programs (via the chapter as they are chartered on March 24, 2001), including the Sigma Lounge (you may view the video clip below for more details):
The event is a key component in their scholarship programming, which covers an extensive area. Along with providing opportunities for those in their undergraduate chapters which they advise at Emory University, Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw State, they provide related opportunities for students who attend these institutions of higher learning. Combined with opportunities available for students in their service area (which includes Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett Counties), it is the embodiment of the adage "a party with a purpose" (you may watch the video below for a snapshot of previous years of the event):
However, it is not short on being a fun and engaging formal-affair evening out.
Complete with live entertainment and special surprises for those who purchase a table, it's about having patrons come together for a great time. Tickets are available via Eventbrite (click HERE for more details) along with parking information (it's recommended to get a parking ticket), shuttle information from the parking area to the venue, and other amenities. For those who are unable to attend but have an interest in making a donation to lend support, this can be done via the chapter's CashApp ($izssgrho) and noting "Sigma Lounge Donation" in the subject line (you may watch the video clip below for related information):
It's a way to celebrate just before the sorority's Founders' Day, along with enjoying a formal, festive occasion aligned with providing a measure of service and outreach (via their scholarship program).
