The upcoming holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. carries a significant meaning when you consider the history and legacy behind the man.
Ranging from his academic prowess (as an alumnus of Morehouse College along with his doctorate from Boston University), his leadership within the faith community, to his civil rights work, and his larger advocacy for economic and related equity across the class and caste strata, this in and of itself is something to recall, reflect upon, celebrate, and continue to advocate for. And among those providing a reminder of heeding the call is the event taking place at Poplar Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
As is part of their continued recognition, celebration, and reminder for advocacy across the board (click HERE for their 2025 effort), their service (January 19, 2026 at 10am EST) features Ramona Toole (who is a candidate for Superior Court Judge in Gwinnett County) as the keynote speaker. Along with the presence of church leadership and others, the call to be as civically engaged and astute as possible is one that truly resonates across the immediate and surrounding community.

The event is free and open to the public; early arrival is recommended (as in previous years, the event is at capacity).
Being proactive with stewardship via the means of community engagement is integral to Poplar Hill Missionary Baptist Church and the work done in the community. And in doing so, it's reflective of the steps taken by Dr. King in building the Great Community and doing greater than what is done before.
