Worcester's win stops the Stripers' 3-game win streak (6-4 win by the Red Sox)

Preview: Worcester Red Sox (73-63, 10 GB in the International League East) vs Gwinnett Stripers (64-71, 14.5 GB in the International League West)

The September 10, 2023 matchup between the Worcester Red Sox (the AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) and the Gwinnett Stripers (the AAA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) finds The Stripers winning 3 in a row and clinching a series win. However, with a goal of getting to and above the .500 mark, the Red Sox, who are seeing their post-season chances slip away, look to put a halt to Gwinnett's current win streak.

The Red Sox are sending starter Rio Gomez (0-3, 4.60 ERA) on the mound to slow down the Stripers. On offense, David Hamilton (.250 BA with 17 HR, 52 RBI's, and 54 SB's), Pablo Reyes (.286 BA with 2 HR and 4 RBI's with Worcester), and Bobby Dalbec (.269 BA with 33 HR, 74 RBI's, and 18 SB's) look to lead the way.

The Stripers counter with starter Brian Moran (2-0 with a 3.27 ERA) to set the tone for the defense. Offensively, Joe Dunand (.270 BA with 17 HR and 51 RBI's), Braden Shewmake (.235 BA with 14 HR, 64 RBI's, and 26 SB's), and Yolmer Sanchez (.243 BA with 8 HR and 59 RBI's) prepare to have a solid showing to win their 4th game in a row (and of the series).

Game highlights

Gwinnett would get on the board to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, as Braden Shewmake's line drive to right-center field jets out in a hurry and clears the fence for his 15th of the season.

In the top of the 4th inning, the Red Sox would have a flurry of hits and runs to take the lead.

Ronaldo Hernandez would get things going with a 2-RBI double off Gwinnett's Seth Elledge (who would take the loss and drop to 4-3 overall) to cut into the lead (3-2). Niko Kavadas would add an RBI double to tie the game, and the scoring continues thanks to RBI doubles by Bradley Zimmer and Narciso Crook to take a 5-2 lead (as Elledge would last the inning, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits along with a walk).

Gwinnett would get back in the game in the bottom of the 6th. Joe Hudson's 2-run blast (his 9th of the season) gets the Stripers within a run (5-4). However, the Stripers would give a run back in the top of the 7th, as Ben Heller's wild pitch leads to the Red Sox getting a run (scored by Narciso Crook) to make it a 6-4 game. Soiund pitching by the Sox' bullpen would result in them snapping Gwinnett's 3-game winning streak.

Cam Bosser would get the win (improving to 4-3 overall) with AJ Politi earning his 14th save of the season; Ryan Fernandez' solid relief (2 innings allowing 2 hits along with 5 strikeouts) is key in the team win. On offense, Ronaldo Hernandez (1 for 4 with 2 RBI's) and Narciso Crook (2 for 3 with 1 RBI) are leading contributors.

Braden Shewmake (2 for 4 with 1 HR and 2 RBI's) and Joe Hudson (2 for 4 with 1 HR and 2 RBI's) provide the offense for the Stripers.

Worcester returns home to open a 5-game series against Syracuse, while Gwinnett travels to Jacksonville for a 6-game series.
