Sundays, strikes, and "skolarships" with the SJAC chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

On Sunday, February 27th, something special took place at Pin Strikes (3478 Mount Zion Road in Stockbridge, GA).

The Stockbridge-Jonesboro Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc (click HERE to visit their website) hosts their annual Strikes and Skolarships bowling event. With all lanes filled with a variety of teams of different ages, as well as multiple organizations from the Divine 9 (the collective of predominantly African-American fraternities and sororities), the event is full of engagement and more.

Adding to the outing on the lanes is the greater mission and purpose of the event (refer to the video/interview with the chapter Polemarch [president] Claude Gatlin, Jr.):

As an extension of the community service and outreach in their service area (primarily Stockbridge, Jonesboro, and a portion of Clayton County), proceeds from the event support their scholarship program through their nonprofit, the Dream Achievers Foundation. In addition to supporting the post high school endeavors of students pursuing higher education, related initiatives are centered on mentoring (via the Kappa League) and inter-related community service programs for youth, adults, and families.

And of course, the spirit of healthy competition is alive and well. Beyond the bragging rights for the best score, there's the opportunity to walk away with some "hardware" to remind all of the excellence shown on the lanes.

Since their larger fraternity's founding on January 11, 1911 (on the campus of Indiana University) and the chapter's chartering on February 14, 2003, under the motto of "Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor", Sunday's event is an example of how they are making an impact in their service area and beyond. As a positive way of drawing Black History Month to a conclusion, taking it to the lanes allows for a great way to enjoy the afternoon, all for a sound community-centered focus.

In doing so, it's about making our communities improved spaces and places for all.

And that is a solid and sound Strike for "Skolarships".
