Matters of the heart: the Iconic Iota Zeta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. opens their sorority year with their inaugural fun run & walk
Matters of the heart.
When it comes to the Iconic Iota Zeta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., this Saturday's inaugural fun run & walk (July 6, 2024 at Track Georgia/741 Connally St SE in Atlanta, GA) is more than just the start of their sorority year (July 1, 2024 is the official start of their year for community programming and engagement). It takes on a different meaning given the purpose of the event and providing improved access to resources for those in their service area (North Atlanta along with DeKalb and Cobb counties).
It's about remembering one of their own and supporting community-centered organizations focused on improving awareness regarding the prevalence of heart disease and stroke among Black/African-American women.
Done in memory of their chapter member Angela McQuire Bohles, an avid runner-walker who passed prior to her 50th birthday, a portion of the proceeds from the event are being presented to the American Heart Association. Combined with multiple vendors and more, all participants (runners, walkers, chapter members, and related supporters) are able to start their day (7am registration and 7:45am opening time for the start line) in an engaging and enriching manner.
There are limited spaces available for runners and walkers; make sure to contact health.wellnesscommitteeizs@gmail.com for additional details.
From their sorority's founding (November 12, 1922 on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, IN) to the chapter's chartering (March 24, 2001), operating under the motto of "Greater Service, Greater Progress", being "iconic" is an extension of the service, outreach, and programing conducted in their service area. This Saturday is an opportunity to remember, learn, enhance, and lend support to build awareness regarding a growing health area of concern.
It's a matter and affair of the heart.
