Preview: Greenville Swamp Rabbits (3-4-0-0/6 points/6th place in the ECHL South) vs Atlanta Gladiators (6-0-0-0/12 points/1st place in the ECHL South)
As the Atlanta Gladiators close out their current homestand (3 games), they look to have another favorable result against yet another ECHL South Division rival.
For the mid-morning School Day #1 game in which students across the metro-area are in for a daytime experience of hockey (November 5, 2025 at 10:30am EST at the Gas South District), the visiting Greenville Swamp Rabbits are focused on getting to the .500 level along with snapping the Glads' 6-game winning streak to open the season. Tate Singleton (2 goals/5 assists/7 points) and Keaton Mastrodonato (2 goals/3 assists/5 points) lead an offense averaging 2.7 goals per game; they have a tough task ahead of them as the Atlanta defense has allowed 9 goals in 6 games (1.50 goals allowed per game) as goaltender Ethan Haider (3-0-0-0/2.33 goals allowed average/.922 save percentage) is between the pipes for today's game.
Combined with a stellar defense, the Gladiators' offense is scoring at a steady 3.3 goals per game clip. Alex Young (3 goals/3 assists/6 points) and Chad Nychuk (2 goals/4 assists/6 points) set the tone for the offense as they'll look to break through against a steady Greenville defense (allowing 2.7 goals per game) as Mattias Sholl (1-2-0-0/2.05 goals allowed average/.937 save percentage) is prepared to counter the Glads' offensive attack and attempt to snap their winning streak.
Recap: The Swamp Rabbits stop the Glads' early season run at 6 wins in a row.
With the energy of elementary, middle, and high school students in the stands for today's mid-morning special, both teams' defenses set the tone as the 1st period concludes in a scoreless tie (0-0).
Greenville would take a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period (at the 9:46 mark) as team leading scorer Tate Singleton's 3rd goal of the season (assisted by Kenta Isogai) finds its way into the net.
The Swamp Rabbits open up the 3rd quarter with a goal from Cam Hausinger (4th goal of the season/assisted by Josh Atkinson at the 1:36 mark) to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Gladiators would respond with a goal of their own in less than a minute later (2:10 mark of the 3rd period); Louis Boudon's 2nd goal of the season (assisted by Ryan Francis) reduces the deficit to 2-1 and gets them back in the game.
The Swamp Rabbits would add to their lead at the 12:13 mark of the 3rd period on Carter Savoie's 3rd goal of the season (assisted by Keaton Mastrodonato and Parker Berge).
While on a late power play opportunity (inside the 3:30 mark of the 3rd period), Atlanta pulls their goaltender to add another skater and generate a scoring opportunity, but Greenville thwarts the effort and has a successful penalty kill, leading to the Swamp Rabbits handing the Gladiators their first loss of the season (3-1).
Post-game: Despite having the edge in power play opportunities, the Atlanta Gladiators are not able to convert on any of their chances (4 to 1). By the same token, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits' ability to generate more shots than the Glads (40-34), contributes to today's outcome. Combined with the efforts of goaltender Isaiah Saville (33 saves on 34 shots), Greenville snaps Atlanta's early season run.
Head Coach Matt Ginn and goaltender Ethan Haider (37 saves on 40 shots) take time to speak with the media after the game (the full interviews are provided below). Both note a few areas of focus as they embark their upcoming road-trip (4 games).
