A regular season finale between 8-1 teams: the Georgia Spartans rematch with the Atlanta Legends
While regular season play in the United Men's Basketball League winds down this Saturday, May 15th, there's still plenty to play for. A few teams are focused on locking down playoff spots or closing out their regular season on a positive note.
However, for the top-2 teams in #UMBLHoops, there's a little more at stake.
Both the Georgia Spartans and Atlanta Legends enter the weekend as co-leaders of the semi-professional league (both teams have an 8-1 record). The Legends' only loss is at the hands of the Spartans by a 112-105 score on April 10th (click HERE for the recap). The Spartans' only loss is by a 3 point margin on May 1st; with a win, their record improves to 9-1 and would not only put them in 1st place for the regular season (leading into the playoffs), but given them a sweep of the series.
Clearly, something has to give and both teams have something to prove; one team is focused on maintaining their advantage while the other looks to even the score.
The 1pm tipoff takes place at Green Pastures Academy (5455 Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur, GA). Tickets are $10 per person and children 12 and under are free. With a DJ to provide the sounds to Saturday's action on the court (for this and all the games), vendors, and give-a-ways, it adds to the energetic and engaging atmosphere.
Fans of the game, families, and those looking for a local "getaway" on Saturday can clearly keep this game (and the entire slate of games) on their radar.
After all, it's still about Saturdays with the Georgia Spartans.
