Join them in the Winner's Circle: the #AlphaDerbyWeekend

Today is THE day. And we're not talking about Cinco de Mayo either.

Since January 1, 2017, the Alphas of Atlanta, Inc. are public about their signature event, the #AlphaDerbyWeekend. In its third year (the first edition takes place in 2015), it is growing into one of the must attend events of the spring and year. Considering the attention garnered in the AJC as a "top-5" event along with coverage from media outlets including (but not limited to) CBS46's Atlanta Plugged In and Kiss 104, it truly is the destination benefit weekend of the spring, if not the year.

The collective of the eight graduate chapters based in the Metro-Atlanta area and the first intercollegiate fraternity established for and by African-American men, the impressive weekend itinerary (for May 5-7, 2017) is one that others cannot approach. Their kickoff event at the host hotel, the Westin-Buckhead, takes place (on May 5th) from 7pm-1am; complete with a live band, dj, and cigar classes among other amenities, it is a classy and festive way to start the weekend "Cinco de Alpha" style. The main event on Saturday, May 6th, takes place at the City Club of Buckhead from 3:30-8:30pm. Two levels, indoor/outdoor settings, live band, multiple dj's, silent auction, raffle, cigar section, and of course, multiple screens to catch the Kentucky Derby make it a sophisticated setting for meet, greet, and simply have a wonderful time with a mature audience.

And then there's the addition for this year, the jazz brunch. Complete with the sounds of saxophonist Trey Daniels (whose credits include playing with Lionel Ritchie, Lalah Hathaway, and other artists) and bottomless mimosas, the 11am-2pm closeout event on May 7, 2017 is sold out.

Progression is clearly the name of the game. In 2015, 900 people attend the event. This weekend's attendance is expected to approach 2300 people, including the top of out of town cities of Birmingham, Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, and Washington, DC. BB&T (title sponsor) and Kiss 104.1 (media sponsor) are among the impressive sponsors, media, and in-kind donors that are making this the event it is. However, the most important component is the reason for the event, and that is the support of eight (up from seven the previous years) Metro-Atlanta nonprofits supported by the event, which includes mentoring and scholarship programs.

In the end, the collaborative efforts are targeting donating at least $60,000 to the previously noted foundations, making it a total in excess of $120,000 donated in the 3 years of the event. Clearly, the Alphas of Atlanta, Inc. are making it happen; we're honored to be a part of the team to help them make it happen too.

See you in the Winner's Circle.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All events are ticketed events, as you must have a ticket in order to attend. Limited tickets remain for the kickoff event on May 5, 2017 and main event on May 6, 2017; the Sunday brunch (May 7, 2017) is SOLD-OUT.
